Data Visualization with Excel - Part 1
There are abundant tool available for Data Analysis & Visualization but we all are using excel before we know what is data analytics & visualization.
Excel has been a great tool in analyzing the data, Presenting it in form of Graphs and for any simple or complex mathematical calculation with the data. So I thought why not explore the Analytical aspect of excel tool and showcase how it can be used an excellent tool in BI & Analytics domain. In my this post I would focus on Visualization of data in excel with different graph types:
Bar Chart:
Data to plot the Bar chart:
Fruits | No. of Consumers |
---|---|
Orange | 29 |
Apple | 19 |
Mix Fruit | 41 |
Litchi | 23 |
Pineapple | 14 |
Go to Charts and select Column Charts
Select the Data Range for Bar Chart:
Bar Chart is Generated for the above table data:
Multiple Bar Charts
Juice | No. of Consumers | ||
---|---|---|---|
A | B | C | |
Orange | 25 | 17 | 28 |
Apple | 15 | 13 | 8 |
Mix Fruit | 33 | 23 | 14 |
Litchi | 18 | 22 | 14 |
Pineapple | 9 | 5 | 6 |
Repeat the above same steps to create Multiple column bar chart:
Stacked Bar Chart
Repeat the same steps as above but select the chart type as Stacked Bar Chart
Percentage Stacked Column
This graph represents the percentage value for each of the items A,B,C for a specific fruit
Pie Chart
For Column A: Select Column Juice & Column A as data range and then select chart type as 3D Pie Chart
Histogram
Histogram is used to represent continuous frequency Distribution. There is no gap between the bars and it has a continuous appearance.
Select Column chart and Format Data Series to select Gap width as 0%
In Part 2(coming soon), We will learn how to plot the Histogram using Excel Data Analysis ToolPak and Polygons, Curves, Line Diagrams and also Series Data.
